A colourful mix of mango, strawberry and basil make this fruit infused water a refreshing and exciting beverage to sip on hot summer days. Enjoy it with ice and/or a straw, beach and vacation are optional, thanks to this flavourful mix summer is wherewer you drink it!
Summer is in full swing. Not only are the farmers’ markets full of vibrant red strawberries and cherries, the sun is scorching, the weather is hot and I wish I could spend the day reading a book in the shades on the beach or in my parents’ garden.
Well if you are lucky and are on vacation, this is the perfect summer drink to sip while reading your novel or magazine on the beach, but if you are like me and are stuck in the city working, enjoy this fresh and fruity infused water to sweeten your day and daydream of lazy summer days. đ
I have always liked water, never had any problem drinking it. It is my favourite beverage, I love how it quenches my thirst and even as a kid when I could choose between a soda or plain water I would pick water. But some of my friends cannot stomach the taste of water. It’s not the drinking that is problematic to them, they drink tea, fruit juice, coffee, it’s the blandness of water. They object to it lacking any taste, zing, character, they say ‘water is bleh’.
Well I am happy to say this mango strawberry basil infused water is anything but bland: the water has a hint of the mango’s sweetness, the tartness of the strawberries and the few basil leaves and lemon slices add some freshness and zing to it, a perfect refreshing mix to enjoy chilled, sipping slowly or gulped down at once, as you prefer. đ
It is incredibly easy and wonderfully refreshing in the hot weather, and one of the best things about it is that you can customize it any way you want: add and mix any sort of fruit (cherry, watermelon, blueberries, raspberries, etc.) with basil, mint, cucumber slices, orange or lime and you’ve got yourself a colourful and exciting (and not to forget healthy as well!) beverage. So get creative and then tell me what you mixed up, ok? đ
- ¼ mango diced up
- ½ cup sliced strawberries
- 2 lemon or lime slices
- 4-8 basil leaves
- water
- Wash and hull the strawberries, then slice them up depending on their size (mine were small so I only cut them in half).
- Put the strawberries, the diced up mango, the lemon or lime slices as well as the washed basil leaves in your pitcher, fill it up with water and put it in your fridge for a few hours (1-3) to let the fruits infuse the water.
This amount of fruit is enough for 1 large pitcher of about 2 litres or several smaller glasses/jars.
Only use organic lemon/lime, you do not want to let citrus treated with chemicals steep for hours in your drinking water.
